Railways Ministry is inviting online applications for 22195 permanent positions across various units of Indian Railways under CEN No. 09/2025, under Group D Cadre. Interested candidates must submit their applications by 02-03-2026, ensuring they comply with all eligibility norms, including educational qualifications and medical standards, before applying.

These Level-1 roles, such as Assistant Track Machine, Pointsman, and Assistant (S&T), are vital to railway safety and efficiency. They involve maintaining heavy track machinery, managing yard operations like shunting and point-setting, and assisting in the upkeep of critical signaling and telecommunication systems.

  • These posts carry pay and allowances as per Level 1 of 7th CPC Pay Matrix. Initial gross monthly salary will be approx Rs 27000.
Age Relaxation (As on 01-01-2026)
  • OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 3 years.
  • SC/ST: 5 years.
  • PwBD: 10 years. Community relaxation additional.
  • Ex-Servicemen: 3 years (after deduction of length of service from age). Community relaxation additional.
Other Eligibility Conditions
  • Candidates awaiting final results of the prescribed educational qualification are NOT eligible to apply.
  • Candidates from all states may apply. There is no specific state local language requirement.
  • Candidates can choose only one RRB/Railway Zone and must submit only one application. Multiple applications will lead to rejection.
  • Vacancies under CCAA quota (Course Completed Act Apprentice) are applicable to Apprentices trained in Railway Establishments only.

Notably, Many candidates were confused about the required qualification, whether Class 10th is sufficient or ITI is mandatory. Therefore, we confirmed through the official helpline that candidates with a 10th qualification are also eligible to apply. ITI is not mandatory.

Mode of Recruitment :

The recruitment process will comprise a Computer Based Test (CBT), Physical Efficiency Test (PET), Document Verification (DV), and Medical Examination (ME).

Computer Based Test (CBT)

Eligible candidates will appear for a CBT, for which dates will be announced later. There will be negative marking at the rate of 1/3rd mark for every wrong answer. Shortlisting of candidates for various stages will be based on the normalized marks obtained by them.

CBT Syllabus
  • Mathematics: Number system, BODMAS, decimals, fractions, LCM, HCF, ratio and proportion, percentages, mensuration, time and work, time and distance, simple and compound interest, profit and loss, algebra, geometry and trigonometry, elementary statistics, square root, age calculations, calendar & clock, pipes & cistern, etc.

  • General Intelligence and Reasoning: Analogies, alphabetical and number series, coding and decoding, mathematical operations, relationships, syllogism, jumbling, Venn diagram, data interpretation and sufficiency, conclusions and decision-making, similarities and differences, analytical reasoning, classification, directions, statement–arguments and assumptions, etc.

  • General Science: The syllabus under this shall cover Physics, Chemistry, and Life Sciences of 10th standard level (CBSE).

  • General Awareness on current affairs: Science & Technology, sports, culture, personalities, economics, politics, and any other subject of importance.

Minimum Qualifying Marks

Minimum percentage of marks for shortlisting: UR - 40%, EWS - 40%, OBC (Non-creamy layer) - 30%, SC - 30%, ST - 30%. These eligibility marks may be relaxed by 2 marks for PwBD candidates in case of a shortage of PwBD candidates against reserved vacancies.

Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

Based on the merit of candidates in the CBT, candidates will be called for PET up to three times the category-wise total vacancies of the posts notified. Passing the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) is mandatory and will be qualifying in nature. The test will involve weight carrying first, followed by a running test after a recovery gap.

Male Candidates Female Candidates
Should be able to lift and carry 35 kg of weight for a distance of 100 meters in 2 minutes in one chance without putting the weight down AND should be able to run for a distance of 1000 meters in 4 minutes and 15 seconds in one chance. Should be able to lift and carry 20 kg of weight for a distance of 100 meters in 2 minutes in one chance without putting the weight down AND should be able to run for a distance of 1000 meters in 5 minutes and 40 seconds in one chance.

Notably, Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) will be exempted from appearing for PET. However, PwBD candidates will have to pass the prescribed medical examination. Course Completed Act Apprentices will also be exempted from the Physical Efficiency Test.

Document Verification (DV)

Based on the performance of candidates in CBT, subject to their qualifying in PET, the number of candidates to be called for Document Verification (DV) will be equal to the number of notified vacancies. In case two or more candidates secure the same marks, their merit position shall be determined by age criteria (older candidates placed higher in merit).

Medical Examination (ME)

Candidates called for DV will have to pass the requisite medical fitness test(s) conducted by the Railway Administration to ensure that they are medically fit to carry out the duties connected with the post(s). Visual acuity criteria is as shown :

Fee Structure :

Applicable application fee is to be paid online. Fee structure is -

  • General Candidates: ₹500 (₹400 will be refunded after appearing in CBT).
  • SC/ST/Ex-Servicemen/PwBD/Female/Transgender/Minorities/EBC: ₹250 (full refund after appearing in CBT).

Refund will be credited only to the Aadhaar-linked bank account of candidates who appear in the CBT. No refund will be given for incomplete or rejected applications.

How to Apply :

To apply for RRB CEN 09/2025 Group D recruitment, candidates must complete the online application carefully by following the instructions as mentioned below :

  1. Create an account on the RRB portal, by entering mobile number and active Email ID correctly. Candidates must keep the concerned mobile number and Email ID active throughout the recruitment process.
  2. It is recommended to authenticate identity during the “Create an Account” stage using DigiLocker or Aadhaar for smoother verification.
  3. Enter Name, Father’s Name, Mother’s Name, and Date of Birth exactly as recorded in the SSC/SSLC/Matriculation/10th certificate (or equivalent).
  4. Fill out the online application form carefully and re-check all details before final submission.
  5. Upload a live photograph during the application process.
    1. Stand directly in front of the camera and look straight with a neutral expression.
    2. Ensure full face is clearly visible and centered in the frame.
    3. Do not wear a cap, mask, or glasses/spectacles.
    4. Wear non-white clothing (preferably a dark colour) for better contrast.
  6. Upload a scanned signature as per the required specifications:
    • Use a black ink pen on white paper.
    • Signature must be in running handwriting (NOT in CAPITAL/BLOCK/DISJOINTED letters).
    • Scan resolution must be a minimum of 100 DPI.
    • File format: JPG/JPEG only.
    • File size: Between 30 KB and 49 KB.
    • Image dimensions: Minimum 140 pixels (width) × 60 pixels (height).
  7. Mandatory documents to keep ready for upload:
    • Candidate Signature (JPG/JPEG as per specifications)
    • SC/ST Certificate (only if requesting Free Travel Railway Pass) in PDF format, size less than 400 KB
  8. After submitting the complete online application, pay the required examination fee as applicable as per category.
  9. Application Correction:
    1. Once submitted, correction is allowed only through the modification window by paying the modification fee.
    2. The modification window will remain open from 05-03-2026 to 14-03-2026 (up to 23:59 hours).
    3. Modification fee is Rs. 250/- (non-refundable) for each occasion.
    4. Details that cannot be changed:
      • Details filled in the “Create an Account” form (Mobile Number and Email ID)
      • Chosen RRB / Railway Zone
  10. After final submission, keep one copy of the submitted application details safely for future reference.
  11. No need to send any printed application copy to Railway Recruitment Board at this stage.
